Share only the information needed for a task. Replace real names, email addresses, account numbers and other identifiers with fictional placeholders. Redaction must also remove identifying context. Check your organisation’s policy before using any external service.
Start by asking what information is necessary for this task. Replace a customer’s name with CUSTOMER_A, remove contact details and omit unusual facts that could identify them. Redaction of names alone is not anonymisation: a rare job, exact location and date can reveal a person. Use the fictional enquiry supplied in this course. At work, follow the organisation’s approved-tool and data-handling policies; a free account is not permission to upload business records.
